Expert witness reports
We provide independent expert opinion for court and tribunal proceedings. In litigation, the tax or valuation question is frequently central to the sum in dispute, and the court relies on the expert to set out a clear, impartial and well-reasoned analysis on which it can base its decision. Our overriding duty in this work is to the court rather than to those instructing us, and our reports are prepared accordingly, with the reasoning, assumptions and any areas of disagreement stated transparently. We are regularly instructed as a single joint expert on capital gains matters in divorce and financial remedy cases, and we produce expert reports on IHT business property valuations in contentious estate and probate matters. All reports comply with Part 35 CPR and the relevant specialist practice directions. Where required, we attend court, prepare for cross-examination and participate in the joint meeting of experts, so that the analysis is properly tested and the issues narrowed before a hearing.
